Rescuing Two Kittens Back-to-Back Days
In an extraordinary back-to-back display of compassion and ingenuity, the team at Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup of Fresno rescued not one, but two kittens trapped in drains on May 5th and May 6th, 2026, proving that their dedication to the community extends well beyond plumbing calls.
Rescue #1: May 5, 2026: Kitten Recovered from a Neighborhood Sewer Line
When Roto-Rooter Fresno received a call about a kitten trapped inside a neighborhood sewer line, Project Manager Loreto Fernandez and technicians Ramon Valdivia and Sammy Sanchez didn’t hesitate. The crew arrived quickly on scene and deployed a high-resolution video camera into the sewer line, carefully locating the stranded kitten within the pipe system. Using their professional equipment, expertise, and a pool skimmer net, they were able to safely lift the kitten to safety, unharmed and very much relieved.
Adding a heartwarming touch to an already remarkable story, a group of neighborhood children had gathered at the scene, eagerly waiting to see the rescue unfold. The moment the kitten was safely recovered, one of the families stepped forward to offer the kitten a forever home.
Rescue #2: May 6, 2026: “Stormy” the Kitten Saved from a Storm Drain
Just one day later, Roto-Rooter Fresno answered another rescue call. Project Manager James Aspeitia and technicians Luis Espinoza-Lopez and Ramon Valdivia responded to a report of a kitten trapped deep inside a storm drain. Thinking quickly and creatively, the team devised a clever plan in which they lowered a tote bag into the drain while playing kitten sounds from a phone to coax the frightened kitten towards safety. The strategy worked perfectly. The kitten, drawn in by the familiar sounds, climbed into the bag eventually and was gently lifted to safety without a single scratch.
The story has a fitting ending too: a Roto-Rooter Fresno office employee fell in love with the brave little survivor and adopted her on the spot. She now goes by the name “Stormy,” a nod to where the kitten was saved.
